Mississippi Purple Crowder Cowpeas are a highly productive bush bean (cowpea) that thrives even during Florida’s late Summer heat. Pea Pods can be harvested at any time. Mississippi Purple Crowder Cowpea Pods are at their best (ready for shelling) when the pods turn purple.
Expect 2 to 3 good harvests during the middle to late Summer.
Grown in the Full Sun anytime after the last frost, the growing season is very wide. We recommend growing Cowpeas in the Full Sun during the late Spring Growing Season and Summer Growing Season. This is a nitrogen-fixing plant that helps to replenish the soil’s nutrients. If fertilizing, fertilize at half (or less than half) of the normal rate.
Sow seeds no deeper than 1/4″ deep.
